LG Chem, which makes lithium-ion polymer batteries for electric vehicles, has taken a lot of grief, including some from us, for the sluggish start to production at their plant in Holland.
But a recent story in the Detroit News says the company could begin production at the plant in July or August.
LG Chem Michigan received federal grants to support construction of their plant in Holland, but slower than expected demand kept the plant from starting production. Instead, the company supplied its American customers from its plants in South Korea.
But now with sales picking up, it looks like the company will begin making its advanced batteries right here in Michigan, where they’ll be installed in the Built by Michigan Chevrolet Volt and Ford Focus.
