Ann Arbor Takes Part in the Workplace Charging Challenge

The Drive Electric Ann Arbor Partnership (or DEA2P) has partnered with DTE Energy to join the U.S. Department of Energy’s Workplace Charging Challenge. The goal is to increase workplace charging opportunities tenfold in the next five years across Ann Arbor.

With most employees parking their cars 6.5 to 8 hours per workday, available charging stations would not only incentivize the purchase of EVs but greatly increase the city’s overall sustainability. Not to mention the benefits to the companies that choose to get involved. Federal tax credits can reduce the cost up to 30% and DEA2P is willing to provide discounted charging stations. The addition of these workplace charging stations can also earn credits toward LEED Certification.

A simple survey to assess the demand, and a pledge signature, is all it takes for businesses in Ann Arbor can get started with the program. With all of the benefits and support offered, the Workplace Charging Challenge should be a no-brainer for Ann Arbor employers.
