We had a couple of nice surprises on the electric vehicle scene in the month of June.
First, the month was the second-best ever in overall sales of electric vehicles, with especially good numbers for Nissan’s Leaf.
And second, we’re especially pleased to see that the Built by Michigan Chevrolet Volt and Ford Fusion Energi also posted strong sales in the month.
While the Volt didn't beat its best-ever monthly total in June, it still increased sales over May, from 1,684 to 1,777 units, according to numbers gathered by our friends at Green Car Reports.
But the Fusion Energi was the real surprise in June, posting its best ever monthly sales, and for the first-time ever, posting higher sales than the Volt. (It also outsold the Toyota Prius Plug-in, making it the top selling plug-in hybrid for the month.)
There might be a silver lining to the Volt’s slower sales, though.
“With rumors circulating of the next-gen Volt, we may see Volt sales slow as customers wait for a newer model,” according to Antony Ingram at Green Car Reports. “The real winner though is the industry. Whichever model tops the sales charts over the coming months, it's clear that plug-in vehicles are only going to get more popular.”
So maybe we shouldn’t really be surprised when electric vehicles sales continue to set new records every month. But it’s still the kind of the good news we like to share.
Thanks for all you do,
